Congratulations on your engagement! Most couples book their venue first and their photographer second, and photographers in a popular area go about twelve months ahead. I work from real UK data, including Bridebook’s 2026 UK Wedding Report, based on 7,000 UK couples.

I can create a month-by-month plan using your real dates once I know even a rough year.

Start with the feel of the day, then choose a rough wedding year. That gives you a clear lens for deciding on the venue, guest experience and suppliers without needing everything worked out at once.

A useful first exercise is to each choose three words for how you want the wedding to feel, then look at venue styles that match those words. Most other decisions become much easier once the venue and date direction are taking shape.

A few early decisions will make everything else easier:

• A rough year and season, so you know how much planning time you have.
• Where you’d like to celebrate, even if it is only a county or region.
• A guest-count ballpark, because it shapes the venue and atmosphere.
• What matters most, such as food, photography, music, relaxed time with guests or a beautiful setting.
• Ceremony type, whether that is civil, religious, humanist or another format, as the legal steps differ.
